It is certainly about time I had an updated website. I’ve only been putting it off for about 15 years! The first iteration of Turtlesilk.com was created in Dreamweaver, but time and technology had marooned it in the past. I always found it more compelling to create new work, often with actual deadlines, than to update my work online. Periodically I’d feel so bad about the old site that I’d make a stab at creating a new one. I actually did have a new site almost finished, using Adobe Muse, when Adobe discontinued the program!
Finally the old site broke completely— due to something called SSL. (Don’t try to explain it, or say, “That’s just blah, blah.” I don’t want to know. I just want to show my work and get back out to the studio, aka the garage. Since the old site host couldn’t seem to communicate what needed to be done in a language I understood (English, not tech), it would have been pretty silly to pay for another year of hosting for a site that basically said, “Danger, do not trust this site!”.
Hence, I have spent a feverish week repurposing a template on Squarespace. It’s been frustrating. As a graphic designer used to InDesign and Photoshop, I’ve had to give up a lot of control and learn to work within given parameters. But Squarespace Support has been helpful, and while not perfect or even complete yet, this new site is at least not 15 years out of date! I think that calls for a glass of wine. ;-)
